Wrap It Up Right: The Real-World Guide to Packaging That Makes Your Brand Look 10× Bigger.
If there’s one truth in marketing, it’s this: people judge the outside before they ever see the inside.
You can have the best merch, the most thoughtful gift, or the finest Shiraz in WA — but if you hand it over in a dodgy plastic bag, you’ve already lost half the impact.
That’s why packaging matters.
Good packaging doesn’t just protect your product; it builds anticipation, tells your brand story, and makes you look organised and professional — even if your office is currently half a kitchen table and a stack of samples (no judgement, we’ve all been there).
At PromoMate, we see packaging as the final handshake between you and your client.
So let’s unpack (pun absolutely intended) the different ways you can wrap it up right — and how to pick the style that suits your brand, your budget, and your purpose.
🎁 1. Gift Bags — Simple, Versatile, and Seriously Underrated
Let’s be honest — gift bags are the unsung heroes of the promo world.
They’re fast, affordable, and they make even the most ordinary giveaway feel thoughtful.
👉 Check out our Gift Bags range.
Here’s where they shine:
- Events & expos: perfect for stuffing with brochures, pens, drink bottles, and the obligatory stress ball.
- Retail & pop-ups: stylish packaging for boutique products, apparel, or skincare that needs that “we’re a real brand” look.
- Corporate gifting: a simple way to hand over wine, chocolate, or branded merch without needing to wrap it like Santa.
Our crowd favourites:
- Medium Ribbon Handle Paper Bag – Full Colour – 180gsm paper, full-colour print, ribbon handles that add a touch of class. Great for mid-range gifts, staff packs, or product launches.
- Small Ribbon Handle Paper Bag – compact, cost-effective, ideal for jewellery, candles, or gift cards.
- Gift Tote Bag – a cute bag that adds that finishing touch, made from non-woven polypropylene (that’s a fancy way of saying “reusable and sturdy”), perfect for trade shows or eco-conscious branding.
Pros: Quick turnaround, affordable, easy to brand, endless sizes and colours.
Cons: Not as protective as boxes; works best for lighter items.
Pro tip: If you’re handing out something breakable or heavy, double up with tissue, filler, or an inner carton for structure.
Budget level: 💲 – great value for bulk buys and giveaways.
📦 2. Gift Boxes — When Presentation Is the Product
Boxes say one thing loud and clear: premium.
They’re solid, structured, and they tell the recipient, “You matter — and so does what’s inside.”
Our Gift Boxes come in everything from simple fold-up cartons to luxe magnetic-closure styles.
Packing client gifts for Christmas? See our corporate Christmas gifts guide for what to put in the box and when to order it.
Why choose a box:
- You’re sending high-value or fragile items.
- You want to create a “reveal” moment (unboxing videos, anyone?).
- You’re shipping items that need structure and durability.
Top picks:
- Die Cut Box with Locking Lid – robust e-flute corrugated board, full-colour digital print, self-locking design. Perfect for merch packs, media kits, or online orders that need to arrive in style.
- Monaco Gift Box – sleek black finish with a velvet base, magnetic closure, and elastic loops (great for pens or premium accessories).
- Monaco Kraft Gift Box – same build, natural kraft vibe. Perfect for artisan products or earthy branding. Perfect for 2 executive pens.
Pros: High perceived value, fully printable, protective, stackable.
Cons: More storage space needed, slightly higher cost, some require flatpack assembly.
Pro tip: For smaller runs, go for short-run digital printing — it keeps minimums low without sacrificing quality.
Budget level: 💲💲 – mid-range to premium, depending on finish and volume.
🛍️ 3. Paper Bags — The Modern Classic
There was a time when paper bags were flimsy and brown. Those days are gone.
Now, they’re the sustainable, brand-friendly alternative to plastic that clients actually want to be seen carrying.
Our Paper Bags are made from thick 180gsm paper, come with reinforced gussets, and can be printed edge-to-edge in glorious full colour.
Where they work best:
- Eco-conscious brands: show off your sustainability credentials without saying a word.
- Boutiques & cafes: they look good enough to double as walking billboards.
- Events: lightweight, stackable, and easy to hand out.
Standouts include:
- Extra Large, Flat Handle Paper Bag – the classic deli style bag. Ideal for giveaways and retail. Eco-friendly and reusable.
- Large Ribbon Handle Paper Bag – Full Colour – custom printed for a bit more of a colourful feel with selectable ribbons, think department store sheik, adding a touch of sophistication.
Pros: Recyclable, cost-effective, premium look without the price tag.
Cons: Not water-resistant (so maybe don’t hand them out in a storm).
Pro tip: Choose matte lamination for a natural feel or gloss for a more polished look.
Budget level: 💲 – budget-friendly and eco-smart.
🍷 4. Wine Packaging — Because a Bottle Deserves Better
Handing over a bottle of red in a supermarket bag should be illegal in 2025.
If you’re giving wine as a client gift, it’s not just about the drink — it’s about the presentation.
That’s where wine boxes, tubes, and bags come in.
Explore our full Wine Packaging range for something that matches your brand personality.
Let’s break it down:
🪵 Wooden wine boxes
- Tuscany Wine Tube – made from pine with a button-tie elastic closure; it looks like something straight from a Margaret River cellar door.
- Catalonia Two-Bottle Wooden Wine Crate – ideal for gifting to teams or clients. Add engraving or a branded sleeve for extra wow factor.
Why it works: Wooden packaging feels timeless, solid, and worth keeping. It’s perfect for corporate gifting or special events like anniversaries.
📦 Cardboard wine tubes
- Wine Bottle Gift Tube – premium cardboard with a push-on lid; recyclable and easy to print on. Ideal for couriering wine safely and affordably.
Why it works: Lower cost than wood, still looks classy, easy to store in bulk.
🛍️ Wine bags
- Wine Ribbon Handle Paper Bag – Full Colour – fits one bottle; reinforced for strength, printed edge-to-edge.
- Cotton Wine Drawstring Bag – great for eco brands or hampers with a rustic touch.
- Wine Tote Bag – Single – durable non-woven material, reusable, and great for giveaways at events or vineyards.
Pros: A huge range of options from budget to premium, all printable with your logo.
Cons: Wooden boxes weigh more and cost more to ship — but they wow.
Pro tip: For high-end gifting, pair a Tuscany Tube with a custom thank-you card tucked inside — small detail, big impact.
Budget level: 💲 to 💲💲💲 – from paper bags to premium wooden crates.
🧩 5. Kitting – When You Want to Tell a Story, Not Just Send Stuff
If you’ve ever received a package that made you think “someone actually thought about this,” that’s kitting done right.
Our Kitting service pulls all your branded items together into one cohesive, on-brand package — because sending out a random assortment of merch in bubble wrap just doesn’t scream professional.
Kitting lets you:
- Combine products from across our range (think: hoodie + bottle + pen).
- Add printed filler, ribbon, notes, or inserts.
- Deliver a polished, unboxing-ready experience that your clients or staff will remember.
Use cases:
- Onboarding packs: first impressions matter — give new hires a branded welcome they’ll actually use.
- Event packs: send complete kits ahead of conferences or webinars.
- Client hampers: a gift box that tells your brand story from start to finish.
Example combo:
Die Cut Box + Custom Tissue Paper + Cotton Wine Bag + Thank-You Card = one seriously impressive delivery.
Pros: Fully customisable, professional presentation, maximum brand exposure.
Cons: Slightly longer turnaround for assembly, but worth it for the impact.
Pro tip: Use kitting for campaigns where emotion matters — thank-yous, launches, and end-of-year gifting. The perceived value skyrockets when items arrive as a set.
Budget level: 💲💲 to 💲💲💲 – depending on components and customisation.
🪄 How to Choose the Right Packaging for Your Brand
Let’s make it easy. Here’s a quick reality check before you order:
| Your Goal | Best Option | Why It Works |
|---|---|---|
| Handing out merch at an event | Gift Tote Bag | Lightweight, reusable, and affordable |
| Shipping client packs | Die Cut Box with Locking Lid | Protects contents and prints beautifully |
| Giving a bottle of wine | Wine Ribbon Handle Bag or Tuscany Tube | Ranges from budget to premium |
| Creating a wow-factor gift | Monaco Gift Box | Magnetic closure, velvet base, instant luxury |
| Eco-focused promotion | Paper Bags or Cotton Drawstring Bags | Sustainable, reusable, recyclable |
| Full campaign kit | Kitting Service | Cohesive, coordinated, and memorable |
Still not sure? Here’s the rule of thumb:
If your gift is practical, keep the packaging smart. If your gift is sentimental, make the packaging emotional.

It tells your customer who you are before you’ve even said a word.
