Choose the Ball for the Job
A mini rugby ball handed out at a sponsor day is doing a different job from a full-size training ball. Decide whether the product needs to be played with, displayed, signed, thrown into a crowd or packed into an event bag. Then check its size, material, grip, panel construction and inflation details rather than choosing from the name alone.
Promotional, Pro-Style and Mini Formats
- Promotional balls: made for campaigns, giveaways and selected casual use. They give the logo a strong theme connection without claiming to replace specialist match equipment.
- Selected pro-style balls: use sport-specific sizes and materials for a more substantial club or event item. Review the exact specifications for the product.
- Mini balls: easier to hand out, post or display. They suit junior programs, sponsor gifts and event merchandise where a full-size ball is impractical.
- Beach balls: available in several sizes with mix-and-match panel colours on selected products. They suit summer activations, pools and community events rather than field sport.
- High-bounce and novelty balls: compact giveaways for family events and broad campaigns, with a different play value from an inflatable sports ball.
Artwork Has to Work With the Panels
Sports balls are curved, segmented surfaces. Screen printing suits many spot-colour logos on designated panels, while pad printing appears on selected mini and novelty formats. Some products allow panel colours to be chosen from a standard range. Templates matter because seams, valves, panel shape and curvature define the printable area; this is not the place for a tiny web address wrapped around six stitches.
Use a bold, legible mark and decide whether sponsor names, event details or team colours are the priority. The printing processes guide explains the methods, and the free visual proof shows how the artwork sits on the selected panel.
Plan Inflation, Packing and Distribution
Many full-size catalogue balls are supplied deflated, while selected mini products arrive inflated. Confirm that before the event. If volunteers need to inflate hundreds of balls on site, pumps, storage and setup time become part of the merchandise plan. Deflated balls are easier to carton and transport, but the recipient experience is different.
For club packs, decide whether each ball is for play, presentation or fundraising. For school clinics, choose a size suitable for the intended age and activity. Where formal competition or safety requirements apply, the organisation should confirm that the exact ball meets them rather than relying on a category label.
Lead Times Need an Early Whistle
Several made-to-order sports balls in the live range list production lead times around 40 working days by air, while mix-and-match beach balls can list around 30 working days. Larger orders may offer sea freight on request, which adds planning time. Those are product-specific examples, not a promise for every item. Set the delivery date before choosing the ball and use the lead-time guide to understand the approval and delivery stages.
Related Club and Event Merchandise
Round out the project with sports and fitness products, sports headwear, towels, sports and duffle bags or the wider leisure and outdoor range.
Branded Sports Ball FAQs
Are promotional sports balls supplied inflated?
It varies. Many full-size sports balls are supplied deflated, while selected mini products may arrive inflated. Check the exact product and include inflation, pumps, storage and event setup in the plan.
Can team colours be used on a custom sports ball?
Selected made-to-order balls allow panel colours to be chosen from a standard range, and branding can use approved spot colours. Availability, minimums and lead time depend on the ball, so send us the colour references early.
How long do custom branded sports balls take?
Lead times vary, and several made-to-order products list around 30 to 40 working days for production by air before local delivery. Confirm the exact product, artwork approval date and event deadline before ordering.
